Sara Galac

Sara Galac graduated from the Veterinary Faculty in Ljubljana, Slovenia. After graduation she moved to the Netherlands and completed an internship and residency at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht. She completed her first PhD thesis about the use of a progesterone receptor antagonist during pregnancy and luteal phase in dogs at the University in Ljubljana in 2001 and her second PhD entitled “Recent developments of Cushing`s syndrome in dogs”, she successfully defended at Utrecht University in 2010. Nowadays, she is a staff member of the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht and holds a position of associate professor.

 

Her main interest is Endocrinology. She is involved in clinical work, teaching and research. She leads the veterinary oncology research group called OnGo at the dept. of Clinical Sciences. The activities of OnGo are based on the ‘One Medicine’ approach: giving veterinary cancer patients an opportunity to benefit from novel developments in cancer research in human medicine, while providing a translational research model for human patients with comparable disease.

 

Beyond her research, Sara plays an important role in veterinary medicine education. She is a co-editor of Canine Endocrinology, a comprehensive reference of endocrinology for clinicians, students and specialists in training. As past-president and an active member of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology, she also contributes to setting medical and scientific standards across Europe, promoting collaboration between clinicians and researchers.
